The term "centering capacity" is not a truly meaningful term!
Das Zentrieren ist der erste und wichtigste step when working on the pottery wheel. In this process, the "lump" of clay is centred by hand onto the exact rotation axis of the spinning wheel head so that when throwing completely still under the hands and no longer "wobbles". The wheel heads / bat systems are only accessories and are actually intended for delicate masterpieces that might warp when removed from the wheel head.
The screw heads of the 3 central screws fill with clay.
This does not need to be removed either.
Questions about bat systems and wheel heads:
The different materials of the inserts differ in the speed and amount of moisture they absorb from the vessel base during drying.
- Plastic does not absorb moisture.
- MDF absorbs a small amount of moisture slowly.
- Ceramic absorbs a large amount of moisture quickly.
As an all-rounder, inserts and discs made of MDF have proven themselves.
We exclusively use 2 of the highest-quality MDF grades available for our products:
Premium-MDF:
- Very low swelling due to moisture absorption
- Very high recovery after drying
- Ideal for bat systems to prevent inserts from jamming
- The manufacturer of the base material guarantees 50 years for uncoated outdoor use!
Super-MDF:
- Low swelling due to moisture absorption
- High recovery after drying
- Ideal for large wheel heads
- The manufacturer of the base material guarantees long durability for coated outdoor use.
MDF 150 mm and plastic 150 mm inserts are interchangeable – i.e., plastic 150 mm inserts can also be used in a bat system with MDF 150 mm inserts, and vice versa.
In die Basisscheibe der Bat-Systeme mit Einsätzen aus Biskuit-Fliesen 147mm only fit inserts from Biskuit-Fliesen 147mm.
If the wooden discs run slightly off-centre at the outer edge, this does not matter – you throw in the centre of the Scheiben und dort drehen Sie auf der Drehachse des Drehtellers.

3. Stellen Sie ein Tonbett auf dem Drehteller bevor die die Aufsatzscheibe aufstecken.
Help with technical problems with our pottery wheels:
Hier hat sich wohl etwas Dreck zwischen Antriebswelle und Aufnahmebohrung des Drehtellers festgesetzt oder / und ein Kratzer gebildet.
Heat the wheel head at the top centre for approx. 1–2
minutes with a hairdryer. A heat gun works faster. This causes the mounting hole of the wheel head to expand sliwas aus und der Drehteller kann nach oben von der
drive shaft.
Caution!: Protect the splash pan from the hot air (e.g. with a cloth)! It may otherwise be damaged.
Before re-attaching the wheel head, inspect the mounting hole and shalle auf for damage/dirt and remove any grooves or Kratzer mit sehr feinem Schleifpapier oder besser -Vlies scratches. Remove all grinding dust!
Then coat the shaft and mounting hole with a thin film of Ballistol universal oil.
